Drawing us in with a textured drum riff and a dimensional, guitar soundscape with horns and blues nuance, Heart of Pine open Phetamine & Pearls with situational, metaphorical prose and a captivating timbre. Speaking on the message of Phetamine & Pearls, Heart of Pine confess, “Lyrically it’s a song about a girl who’s a hell of a lot of fun to hang out with but can’t be caught.”
The opus expands with an immersive nature, to take us on a timeless, yet subversive journey as we experience the inner workings of the band’s mindset, and a soundscape that showcases nothing short of instrumental mastery.
We appreciate the poetic prowess exhibited, and the instrumental reposes with luscious and captivating harmonies. The back to back guitar solos are transcendental, a fitting energy for the wider context of the track, and the recalibration of the composition for a magnetic finale is supreme.
Phetamine & Pearls is taken from Heart of Pine‘s upcoming sophomore album and the track is designed to cement their genre expansive, “southedelic” soundscape, comprised of a fusion of blues and rock.
The band features Steven Bagwell on lead vocals and lead guitar, whilst Travis Richardson plays rhythm guitar, Boone Hood showcases his skill on bass, with Jesse Fountain on keys, and Todd Headley slaying on drums.
The band cite influences including Allman Brothers Band, Waylon Jennings, and The Grateful Dead, which we can feel come through in their artistry, although there is no doubt that Heart of Pine are manifesting a sound of their own. We have added Phetamine & Pearls to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Heart of Pine, and anticipate the release of the upcoming album!
