Yodashe takes us on a subversive trip with evocative and magnetic new opus, EASTER

Setting the tone with a cerebral soundscape and pitched, astral ad libs, Yodashe opens EASTER with atmospheric and dimensional vocals that fans of FKA Twigs will immediately be able to connect with. Panning high hats and industrial textures guide us to a siren-esque frequency before a more immersive energy takes a hold of us.

The opus expands with melodic nuance and a purring bassline, as Yodashe showcases her expansive range, before pulsating vocal synth accompanies the star as she asks, “Where did we go wrong?”

The rising artist from London describes EASTER as “an unapologetic stare into the abyss.” The talented creates continues, “It attempts to sonify the turbulence, haziness and disorientation of the early days of the pandemic. It’s a deep dive into the abyss of insecurity, loss and fear of our collective warped, distorted reality.”

We appreciate the intimacy of the meditative middle eight which dissolves before a subversive reprise, described by Yodashe as “the bridge where it takes a courageous dive into chaos”, and the finale being dubbed as “violent, turbulent, sinister, [and] dark”, with “audio processing creating a sensation of dizziness and disorientation.”

Yodashe elaborates, “Throughout this process the voice becomes gradually unrecognizable, disembodied, representing our species’ mutation, our gradual transformation into something inhumane and detached via our imposed self-isolation.”

We deeply connect with the profound, intentional and philosophical manner in which Yodashe creates, and have added EASTER to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our brand new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to explore the star’s wider discography, including FAM, MRKTPLC and Visualization.
