Foot Squeaker share philosophical and dynamic new single, Friends Like These

Setting the tone with an intricate and immersive guitar soundscape, expanding into a luscious, Brit-rock energy, Foot Squeaker open Friends Like These with a timeless mood and thought-provoking prose.

The opus expands with poetic prowess, smart lyricism and philosophical depth to take us on a dimensional sonic journey with incredible instrumental interludes that have us wholly captivated. The guitar solos are out of this world, and we love the psychedelic nuance of the composition.

Speaking on how the song came about, lead singer and band guitarist Diarmuid Comerford confesses, “The idea for Friends Like These came about from a conversation with my 15 yr old son – ‘You can’t just go up to people, say hey, and make friends. It’s much more complex due to social media status and cliques’. I feel this sentiment is echoed in similar challenges and anxieties around forming new friendships as you go through life”.

The psychological concept of the song underscores the intricate dynamics of human social interactions, particularly in today’s digital age. Status and cliques play a significant role in shaping our social connections, influencing who we interact with and how we perceive others. In a world where online presence and popularity can dictate one’s social standing, the pressure to fit into certain cliques or social circles can create barriers to forming genuine connections with others.

This complex interplay of social dynamics can make it challenging for individuals to navigate the complexities of friendship formation, as they must contend with issues of status, reputation, and perceived social hierarchy. We deeply connect with how Foot Squeaker have brought this message to life with their prose, and appreciate the intentional depth that they are sharing, laced with wisdom.

In addition to Diarmuid Comerford, the band features Mike Lynch on drums and vocals, and Richard Deering on bass and vocals. We learn that Friends Like These was recorded in the band’s studio, mixed by Daniel Fox (Gilla Band) with mastering by Darragh Nolan aka Astakalapa.

We have added Friends Like These to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Foot Squeaker‘s wider discography, including Silhouette, and No Connection, and anticipate future releases from the philosophical band.
