By now you will know that we are huge fans of rising popstar Nieri, having featured a slew of his recent releases, including his subversive, eye-opening cover of Grace Jones’ iconic song, Nightclubbing, so when we heard that the talented creator was back with Spoiler Alert, we had a feeling that we were in for a treat.
Kicking off with a pitched and ethereal announcement of the title of the track with epic and divergent synthscape, the opus expands with an atmospheric pop vocal as Nieri shares situational and philosophical prose. Needless to say, we are captivated.
What we love about Nieri is his ability to weave together smart prose with an impactful yet timeless energy, certainly establishing his artistry in the league of some of the greats.
We appreciate the journey that the star takes us on and the dynamic and dramatic sonic landscape that Nieri creates. The instrumental sections are laced with astral ad libs, leading us to a climax before an emotive middle eight, and stripped back reprise before a harmony heavy finale and instrumental breakdown.
Nieri tells us how Spoiler Alert is designed to “challenge conventional notions of love, desire and materialism”, and “weave a tale of devotion and human connection.”
With reference to the backstory of Spoiler Alert, the New York based visionary adds, “This song emerged from my desire to provide the life of their dreams for my partner. But money can be a sensitive subject, often entangled with control and dominance in relationships. I wanted to reshape this narrative, blurring the lines between true intentions and transactional gestures.”
We learn that in conjunction with the release, Nieri will bring Spoiler Alert to life visually with a music video showcasing “dark and enigmatic scenes”, depicting Nieri‘s journey from being bound in a bondage-style restraint to breaking free and embracing an exhilarating dance routine.
