Our obsession with Norway’s DSP band (aka Down South Pepper band) seems to grow with every listen. We previously featured the talented creators for the thought-provoking, Son of a Gun, and the inspiring, The Funny Part, so when we heard that DSP band were back with Hand in my Pocket, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Teasing us with a dimensional guitar soundscape with a rolling bassline and evocative percussion, DSP band open Hand in my Pocket with situational prose and an alternative country vibe that we cannot get enough of.
What we love about DSP band is their timeless nature, and the intricacy of how they create a traditionally classic rockabilly sound with contemporary nuance. Hand in my Pocket is a perfect example of this.
Speaking on the release, DSP band tell us, “This is a song about problems and issues that come with money. Everyone wants a share, either they steal, fraud or give you a fine. Or maybe it’s just the money that makes you paranoid so you think everyone is hunting for a share.”
We appreciate the philosophical depth that accompanies this release, something that we can always count on DSP band for. Hand in my Pocket comes with a playful and captivating music video, which brings to life the message of the song succinctly, whilst showcasing the masterful performances that Rune Nyby, Per Øyvind Mathisen, Lars Rune Rebbestad and Eivind Kløverød have to offer.
It is no surprise that the band has been Artist of the Week at Wall 2 Wall Country at Penn’s Peak Radio, interviewed on the New York based TV show VideoCity in 2022 and done several radio interviews in Norway and other countries!
We love DSP band‘s sound and energy, and have added Hand in my Pocket to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of the creators, and anticipate future releases!
