Norway’s subversive DSP band (aka Down South Pepper band) release thought-provoking new single, Son of a Gun

Setting the scene visually in the music video with one of our protagonists, an acoustic guitar by his side with his back to us, facing the wall whilst experiencing an outpour of the human condition, Down South Pepper band open their latest release, Son of a Gun.

The song itself begins with bells chiming, a badass drum riff and some exquisite guitar as the band opens their song with a narrative about their father and his relationship with religion and violence.

Speaking on the track, DSP band says, “Son of a Gun is a roots / americana song telling the story about the grouchy people you can meet on your way and how it feels to get on with your life after.”

The vibe of the song has a traditional melody, whilst the instrumentation and vocal delivery have a sense of immersive urgency and poetic fusion, featuring acoustic guitars, tambourine, drums and electric guitars.

We love the dimensional pace of the track and the song is already being played on country radio stations all over the world.

The video features a funeral as they sing about covering the father figure of the song’s concept with sand and missing him when he’s gone. It is clear that Down South Pepper band are treating their loss with humour in creating this country-Americana bop with subversive overtones.

Down South Pepper band from Norway have played outlaw country and americana music for more than a decade, inspired by great artist such as Steve Earle, Johnny Cash, Toby Keith and Neil Young.

We have been immersing ourselves in DSP band‘s archive of songs, including Come Back to Town and Frankie on streaming platforms and have added Son of a Gun to our New Music Spotlight playlist!
