Wotts share psychedelic and immersive final single of the year, WANNABE

When we heard that Wotts, one of our favourite rising bands, was back with a brand new single titled WANNABE, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our every emotion.

Opening with a melodic and atmospheric keys performance, Wotts kick off WANNABE with situational and metaphorical prose and an ethereal vocal design.

We adore the astral synth riffs and the textured drums that take us on a trip that feels relatable in the band’s search for validation with their evocative lyricism, whilst at the same time nodding to elements of psychedelia.

The sonic design of the track is magnificent and transcendental. The talented duo are masters of their craft and have created a sound that is unique and recognisable. We appreciate the honesty that WANNABE is created with and the authenticity that they share by bringing this message to life.

The pair confess to taking inspiration from acts like Tame Impala and Dayglow, in turn infusing dance and electronic pop with the band’s trademark indie sound. They describe WANNABE as “a happy sad song”.

According to bassist and guitarist Ricky 100, “We love when pop music has layers. Currents by Tame Impala is a perfect example. It’s such a bop of an album, but it’s easy to miss that it’s so introspective and deep. We love the idea of listeners being able to dig beyond the surface to find more.”

Bandmate Jayem says, “This part of the story is really about waiting. Waiting to know, waiting for love, even waiting for a text message. All the pain and mind games that happen when you’re latching onto hope.”

We love the visionary manner in which Wotts create, and their unique ability to convey a thought-provoking and eye-opening narrative with their compositions.

Naturally, we have added WANNABE to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our brand new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the band’s exquisite discography and anticipate further releases in 2024!
