Our obsession with Robert Vendetta seems to grow with every listen. We previously featured the talented artist when he took us on a trip around planet Earth with the inspiring single, Vacation, and when he encouraged us to live in the present moment with the evocative, Here and Now, so when we heard that the creator was back with Fool, we were curious and couldn’t wait to share our experience.
Fool opens with a an enigmatic mellotron melody with an intimate bassline, a light tambourine and elegant piano as Robert Vendetta bares his soul with his signature, charismatic vocal.
We immediately connect with the authentic depth that the star conveys and the choral harmonies that accompany him as he showcases his theatrical-adjacent flow with introspective prose.
We learn that Fool is conceptually based around “choosing a card of gold over one’s friends”, and was written more than fifteen years ago, but recently reworked for Robert’s incoming 2024 album.
He confesses, “This song is very important for the story of the album, since it’s about reaching the bottom before the turning point, so the goal was to have a song full of desperation.”
The lyrics in question are some of Robert’s most emotionally charged and thought-provoking. They offer a poignant perspective from someone who has sacrificed the good things in life, including their friendships, and now reflects upon these choices with deep regret.
For the opus, Robert is joined by Anders Jansvik on drums, Torunn Christelle on mellotron and Håvard Solli on bass. Anders, Torunn, Bjørn Nes and the artist János provided backing vocals.
Robert tells us that the song is influenced by Ariana Grande, Laleh, and Leonard Cohen, but there is no doubt that Robert Vendetta is manifesting a sonic architecture and identity of his own.
We have added Fool to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Robert Vendetta‘s wider discography and anticipate future releases from the star.
