Our obsession with Super Saiyan Jay seems to grow with every listen. We featured the star as he traversed the binaries of peace and chaos in , Let Them Be, and for the assertive and fierce, Keep It Direct, so when we heard that the rising artist had just released Staying In, we were curious and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Enticing us with an astral synth arpeggio, textured drums, wood block nuances and a thumping kick, Super Saiyan Jay opens Staying In with mind-opening prose as he debates the social norms of leaving one’s home.
Society today can be complicated to navigate, with the recent lock downs, fused with the balancing of introversion versus the need to go out, so we appreciate Jay’s commentary and the intelligence that he communicates with lyrically.
Speaking on the release of Staying In, the star confesses, “This song is pretty much finding a need to escape into your own reality and being at peace with that. The mind is a powerful thing and sometimes we don’t have the want or need to interact in a social setting.”
He adds, “[It] is for those that take that time to stay inside and escape into their own realities, rather than the one we presently live in. In short, catch a vibe in the crib. It’s lit at home.”
We connect deeply with the vulnerability and candid openness that transpires from his prose, and the confessional nature of how Jay brings the opus to life. He leaves us with some words of wisdom as he says, “Most of the time there is nothing to say. Gone is the mind, that’s the time that I’m free.”
Naturally, we have added Staying In to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Super Saiyan Jay’s wider discography, and anticipate future releases from the star.
