Our obsession with Onism E seems to grow with every listen. We appreciate the band’s conscious approach to song creation, and the instrumental mastery that goes with it.
Naturally, having covered the powerful and profound, Lin Manuel and the empowering and optimistic, It’s Not Over, when we heard that the San Antonio based troupe had just released, I’m Sorry, we were curious and couldn’t wait to share our experience.
Opening with a textured and subversive guitar soundscape with astral synths and descending bass notes, Onism E kick off I’m Sorry with an expansive sense of psychedelia and thought-provoking prose. The track also features guitar work from composer, performer, sound engineer, and session musician Joey Stuckey of Shadow Sound Studios.
As a reminder, Onism E is fronted by Eline Chavez, who always delivers a passionate performance with wisdom and depth. On I’m Sorry, the prose that the star conveys is comforting as she sings, “I know heavy is your burden…”, in turn offering us a release from the shackles that bind us.
Speaking on the message of the song, Eline says, “This song is about living life freely without regret. We captured the spirit of rock n’ roll here. At the same time, this song is about letting go of other people’s expectations and living life on your own terms.”
I’m Sorry marks the band’s first release since last year’s hit album It’s Not Over. Eline confesses to channel the “raw, rebellious energy of legends like Patti Smith and Janis Joplin” on the track, which certainly comes through, although there is no doubt that Onism E are establishing a unique identity of their own.
We love the timeless nature of the track, and have added I’m Sorry to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream It’s Not Over, and anticipate future releases from Onism E!
