Jason Shand shares philosophical commentary on defence mechanisms with new single, Selfish Bitch

Setting the tone with a rising guitar riff and pulsating beat, Jason Shand opens Selfish Bitch with a pristine, atmospheric pop vocal as he sings the evocative opening prose, “Sometimes I wonder if you know but choose to look the other way, sometimes I wish I could read your mind and find all the answers…”

The opus expands with layered harmonies, a stunning strings arrangement from John Roggie, introspective depth and emotional authenticity to take us on an assertive and somewhat passive-aggressive journey. We appreciate the star’s theatrical nuance and expansive range.

His songwriting showcases poetic prowess and we are enamoured with the dimensional nature of the composition as well as the metaphorical constructs that Jason Shand brings to life.

Speaking on the release, Jason confesses, “Selfish Bitch is about an individual who has trouble fitting into the world around them and as a defense mechanism may come off as a selfish bitch due to the hurt and heartache they experience… or perhaps they are simply just a selfish bitch, but it’s hard to get a handle on where the one possibility delineates from the other.”

He adds, “Everybody has a little selfish bitch in them – it’s just a matter of being either blissfully unaware or completely owning it not giving a shit what others think! The universal symbol of forgiveness is featured on the artwork for the single.”

The star cites Elbow, U2, Peter Gabriel, Fiona Apple, and NLX as some of his influences, although it is clear that Jason Shand is creating a universe of his own.

We have added Selfish Bitch to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Jason Shand‘s discography, including Oh Fabio, and X Factor.
