Our admiration of rising star Cormac seems to grow with every listen, we adored his covers of Sia‘s Titanium and his stunning reinterpretation of Somewhere from West Side Story, so when we heard that talented creator was back with Take Me Home, Country Roads, we couldn’t wait to experience it!
“Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River, life is old there, older than the trees, younger than the mountains, growin’ like a breeze…” sings Cormac as he shares the iconic opening prose from Take Me Home, Country Roads, first made famous by John Denver.
We cannot help but notice a broodier vocal range from the artist, which we appreciate as it demonstrates evolution in his reality, which is in turn reflected in his artistic decisions.
Speaking on the new vibe, 14-year old Cormac confesses, “This is my first recording in my changed voice, having been a boy treble previously. My voice is still settling so my range is still a bit limited.”
He continues with reference to the cover choice, “Country Roads seemed a good fit for the range and also because I’m off to Nashville to the JOSIE Awards in October as I’ve been nominated in a few categories. Mostly though it was just great fun to record an upbeat foot-tapping, popular song such as this. So different from my previous piano-vocal ballads. I learned how to harmonize my voice for the chorus which has added texture to the vocals and it was the first time I’ve effectively sung with a make-piece band.”

The album is called A Borrowed Gift, which actually refers to his astral treble voice before it changed earlier this year! This all feels like the true growth and expansion of an authentic artist, and we are here for it!
