Our introduction to ACTVE CAPTVE was the thought-provoking trip, Ellis Island, so when we heard that the group was back with Away From You, we were curious to listen, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Enticing us with an astral frequency and a clean and minimalist pop production, ACTVE CAPTVE opens Away From You with the assertive, “Don’t you just sit there as I disappear, you’re going nowhere and I’m outta here…”
What we love about ACTVE CAPTVE is the theatrical adjacency of their sound, blended with R&B, hip-hop, and indie pop, in turn creating a cohesive and unique soundscape. The composition showcases breathtaking instrumentation and takes us on an emotive journey.
Speaking on the release, the outfit confess that Away From You‘s “emotionally charged lyrics explore the bittersweet complexities of a breakup conversation as the characters involved grapple with the difficult decision of parting ways while still harboring strong feelings for each other.”
This comes through succinctly in the song, and the raw authenticity that transpires is tangible. We learn that the track was brought to life with the usual lineup including Jason Heninger as singer, songwriter and producer, Israel Doria on mixing, and Justin Colletti on mastering, with Kyle May providing drums from Nashville, and Cassie Brandi lending her soulful vocals recorded at Orb Studios in Austin.
Justin tells us, “We wanted to create a song that captures the essence of a complicated breakup. The emotions, the longing, and the desire to hold on even when you know it’s time to let go.”
