Having featured a slew of releases from Wotts, including garden, blue, and wheel, we were curious to see what the first track since their recent EP drop had to offer!
be kind opens with a split second of background noise with a brief “hey” ad lib, before expanding into a glistening soundscape with psychedelic nuance.
The duo share their signature atmospheric vocal stylings, as they create a dreamy indie pop vibe with situational and sometimes subversive prose. Speaking on the release, the pair tell us, “It’s our farewell to the people we never got a chance to get closure with.”
We learn that the track is self-recorded and produced, going back to the band’s “DIY roots”. We are in love with the guitar solo and the philosophical depth of what Wotts share with the release.
For be kind, the duo cites Slowdive, Cocteau Twins and George Clanton as influences. Jayem tells us, “I wouldn’t describe it as a shoegaze track, but this is as close to a ‘wall of guitars’ sound as we’ve ever had.”
He continues with reference to the lyricism, “You never really know when it’s the last time you see someone. If you’re lucky you get some kind of closure, but sometimes life happens and you don’t get the chance. This is our way of acknowledging the impact some of these people had on us. Even if things ended badly, we hope they’re doing well.”
Speaking on the pair’s future, Ricky adds, “We’re having so much fun exploring new sounds, it’s basically just pouring out now. We’re super excited to share more songs with everyone.”
We have added be kind to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Wotts‘ ever expanding discography, and anticipate new releases from the talented creators.
