Our obsession with Marc Rangel is evident, having featured the emotive and immersive, Song Cry, and the authentic and evocative, If You Miss Me, so when we heard that the star had also released Closure, we were intrigued and couldn’t wait to share our experience!
Enticing us in with a rippling guitar soundscape and panning, astral frequencies, Marc opens Closure with situational, emotive prose with reference to a late night liaison.
Closure expands with a luscious riser, a textured beat and echoing harmonies, as Marc delivers a memorable vocal timbre, and intricate flow. The subject matter of the piece is clear as Marc sings, “I need closure baby, and you need closure too…”, and we appreciate the relatable nature of the song, and the way that Closure further cements Marc’s iconography as a rising star, whilst showcasing an incredible vocal performance!
With reference to Marc’s discography, the LA-based artist confesses, “This whole upcoming body of work that I have, is about the same ‘entanglement’ that I was involuntarily apart of. So this is just the next piece of the story before I put the full thing out.”
Speaking on Closure itself, Marc says, “This particular song I wrote the day after I made the mistake of sleeping with the guy that had done me real grimy for the prior two years. It was really late at night, he texted me out if no where and told me he was single now. That was kinda everything I wanted to hear. So I went over to hear him out and get his side of the story. I had every intention to just listen and then leave and make him work for my trust back. But then I ended up sleeping with him! So I guess we got the closure we were looking for in a way.”
We learn that Closure was created with Marc’s producer and friend Brandon Zano. Marc tells us, “He is my musical soulmate for real. I really tried to push myself with the vocal arrangement and ad libs. I wanted to have my Brandy/Mariah Carey moment with all the harmonies and stacks.”
