Garland Kelley returns with existential title track for his upcoming EP, Mortal

Our obsession with Garland Kelley seems to grow with every listen. Having covered his discography thus far, we simply had to review Mortal once we heard that it was set for release!

Immersing us with a bright and vibrant guitar soundscape, Garland Kelley opens Mortal with philosophical prose and an existential concept. The theme of the opus touches upon borrowed time in the physical realm, as well as “personal struggles with existence and mortality”, and we couldn’t relate more.

We love how Garland Kelley has a knack for consciously dissecting reality and Mortal is another example of his expansive mindset. Naturally, considering his wider body of work, Mortal is also the name of his debut EP!

The drum and bass nuance within the composition allows it to feel super unique, and the guitar solo is transcendental. Fans of Incubus, Soundgarden, Pink Floyd, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer and Coldplay will be able to connect with Garland Kelley‘s sound, although his conscious lyricism is what sets him apart conceptually.

We have added Mortal to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography including Give It All Away, and The Higher Road.
