Drawing us in with a meditative frequency and an elegant, yet alternative guitar melody with textured riser, an astral synth melodies, millhope opens Illusion with intrigue and dimensionality.
The opus expands with instrumental mastery to take us on an immersive, and sometimes psychedelic journey though space and time, allowing us to reflect on the title of the track, in line with the expansive and illusory nature of reality and the universe.
We appreciate the waves that Illusion exhibits, with varied drum expressions, creating a genre fluid vibe which we absolutely adore. Cosmic risers send us astral, whilst the synth build up takes us to another dimension, all whilst keep us grounded with familiar hook and a sense of ancient-futurism.
The outro taps into the grunge element from the opening, which brings us full circle, whilst a psychedelic synth, and even an 8-bit adjacent melodic synth both invite us to hit the repeat button.
We learn that millhope is the new project of Thomas Mühlhoff (producer, label owner, product-inventor). It marks the first of five singles from the album Truth&Dare. The star tells us that his instrumental music is intentionally created for “daydreaming, curiosity and hopefulness.”
He lists his “ingredients” as “spherical guitar lines, a good portion of reverb, catchy synth melodies pushed by driving drums and striking bass. Spices: Samples of nature and everyday objects.”
