We previously featured Nieri when he teamed up with Alpha Moses to share a dimensional and evocative remix of Body 2 Body, so when we heard that the star had just released Where Would You Drive?, we couldn’t wait to experience it and feed back!
Drawing us in with textured percussion, a techno-adjacent energy, and a fierce dance vocal, Nieri opens Where Would You Drive? with a charismatic pop delivery, and needless to say, we are in awe.
With nods to Michael and Janet Jackson in terms of his nuanced performance, Nieri takes us on an evocative journey with cerebral, glitched sonic design, with elements of both hyperpop and 2000s.
The pristine music experience continues with depth, before a subversive middle eight with warped, compresses vocals before the opus rebuilds with drama into an anthemic finale.
Speaking on the message of Where Would You Drive?, Nieri confesses, “The song explores the emotional turmoil of a relationship in crisis.” We cannot get enough of the track, and cannot wait to see the upcoming FLASCH-directed music video that we learn has “stunning night-time shots, neon lights, avant-garde fashion and follows Nieri on a wild goose chase through futuristic sets and the LA streets”, which sounds perfect for the sound and narrative that the talented artist is creating!
Going into further depth on the concept, Nieri says with wisdom, “When an argument turns for the worse, you start questioning everything. When you fight with a partner, it’s easy to get caught up in your own fears, and point of views. The song wants to be a reminder that, at the end of the day, we’re all looking for healing, and that sometimes we can find it in each other.”
