Michelle Sutton reclaims her narrative with assertive, cathartic and empowering new single, Reliable Witness

Setting the tone with a strummed electric guitar soundscape, Michelle Sutton opens Reliable Witness with self-realized and situational prose as she sings, “Everyone agrees he’s a bully, but it’s better the devil they know, ran off and left me at war unprotected but they’ll text me to tell me I’m strong…”

We immediately connect with the message of the opus, and Michelle’s charismatic delivery. Reliable Witness expands with a textured riser to take us on a thought-provoking journey with a dimensional alternative pop-rock energy, and needless to say, we are in awe.

We learn that Reliable Witness is a song that the Australian star “needed to write to reclaim the narrative from men in authority who were discrediting her character and ruining her reputation.”

She confesses, “It is a tongue-in-cheek, defiant feminist pop-rock anthem that takes no prisoners and sticks in your head.” Her purpose in music is “to have the most amount of fun possible, while putting those who have behaved badly and misused their power on blast”, and Reliable Witness does just that!

Elaborating on the message, Michelle confesses, “This song came from one of the saddest most heartbreaking experiences of my life, where people that had known me for years decided to discredit my character and ruin my reputation. I decided to reclaim the narrative and the truth by writing this song and exposing their hypocrisy and misogyny.”

We appreciate the depth and poetic prowess, as well as the tangible authenticity that Michelle shares with her words and intentional brand of storytelling. Michelle first wrote the song as an acoustic guitar track in late 2019, and the track was then produced by and co-written with Ingrid Oram in late 2022!

Fans of Kate Nash and Lily Allen will definitely be able to connect with Michelle Sutton‘s style, but it is clear that the rising artist is creating a universe of her own. Reliable Witness has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Michelle Sutton‘s wider discography, including Gutless Wonder, and Jesus Loves Fat Girls Too.
