Ari Joshua takes us on a mystical trip with atmospheric new single, Spooky

We previously featured Ari Joshua when he teamed up with Delvon Lamarr, Skerik, Grant Schroff, and Tor Dietrichson on the evocative and intricate single, SoulMine, so when we heard that the star had recreated this magic once more with his collaborators on Spooky, we couldn’t wait to listen and feed back!

Establishing the mood with an enigmatic, funk-adjacent melodic riff, sonically in line with the concept of the track, Ari Joshua opens Spooky with an intentional soundscape, and the instrumental mastery that we have come to love from the creator.

The opus features Ari Joshua on guitar, Delvon Lamarr on Hammond organ, Skerik on saxophone, Grant Schroff on drums, and Tor Dietrichson on percussion. We love the trip-hop hybrid dub vibe, and psychedelic nuances, as well as the raw talent that each of the performers exudes.

The composition hold a mystical and cinematic edge, and features cerebral detailing that we cannot get enough of. We learn that the piece is designed to be both “haunting and nostalgic”, which certainly comes through in its sound.

Along with the visionary artist himself, we too are huge fans of the sub-bass on the organ, which creates a “droney, spacey dub reggae vibe”, resulting in a highly unique energy for the composition which feels almost meditative.

We appreciate how Spooky takes us on a nocturnal and simultaneously mystical adventure, and have added it to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Ari Joshua‘s wider discography including SoulMine!
