By now you will know that we are huge fans of Matt Deangelis, having featured his emotive and elegant EP, World I’m Comin’ For You, the high concept and dynamic, Real Future, and the inspiring and evocative, Change Your Ways, so when we heard that the star had also released Can’t Write About Today, we couldn’t wait to experience it.
Immersing us with a subversive soundscape with syncopated percussion and wailing guitars, Matt Deangelis opens Can’t Write About Today with an alternative energy, and needless to say, we are intrigued.
The opus expands with introspective and thought-provoking prose, as Matt shares his emotions with the words, “Right about now, there is no one thought I can give you, no daylight in my reason but I’ve got a feelin’ inside that the sun is prime for risin’ before long…”
It is clear that Matt is creating from an authentic place, and speaking on the message of the track, he confesses, “This song was written as an expression of the unrest in the world, whose inception began during the pandemic, but has continued to manifest as uncontrolled gun violence, war, and strife among mankind.”
The visionary artist continues, “Even the weather has become more frequently violent–another sign of the times. During one of my all time spiritual lows, I express my utter grief at not being able to even write about these happenings, much less think about tomorrow, and realize that only the Lord can save us from the wrong mindset we are taking as a human race. I ultimately believe in hope for the future, that we will come together as a race, overcome our differences, live in peace, become responsible stewards of our planet.”
We always connect with the depth of the sentiment that Matt Deangelis has to share, and Can’t Write About Today really cements his emotional perspective.
The release comes with a cinematic music video, which showcases an exceptional performance from the star as he conveys his truth and woes. We appreciate the introspective wisdom that Matt exudes, and a lyrical highlight is certainly the hook, “I can’t write about today, can’t think about tomorrow, lost out on yesterday, now I say, so why are the days of past home to life in me, no answer in this world it seems? I don’t know…”
The star leaves us with a call to action as he says, “I continue to implore everyone to rethink their outlook”, with reference to his work, and of course, we agree.
We have added Can’t Write About Today to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Matt Deangelis‘s wider discography including Change Your Ways, and Real Future.
