The Cookie Jar Complot take us on an evocative and dimensional journey with their new single, Cicades

We first featured The Cookie Jar Complot for their dynamic and intricate double single, Cookies, and the self-titled, The Cookie Jar Complot, so when we heard that the talented duo had just released Cicadas, we couldn’t wait to experience it!

Drawing us in with an astral melody, expanding into a luscious and dimensional guitar soundscape, The Cookie Jar Complot open Cicadas with a vibrant and emotive sentiment, and needless to say, we are in awe.

The opus evolves with instrumental mastery to take us on an evocative journey laced with sonic intricacies and playful depth. Speaking on the intention of the release, The Cookie Jar Complot confess, “Cicadas tries to encapsulate a whatever a post- and mathrock hymn would sound like.”

Elaborating on the sonic design, the duo tell us, “The larger than life sounding layered baritone guitars drift towards a more plucky danceable clave section that is echoed in the crushing downbeat of the end. The fundament of gritty classic rock sounding guitars is complimented with sophisticated reverbs and synthpads.”

We deeply appreciate the intention that The Cookie Jar Complot create with, and the transcendental journey that they take us on with the composition.

The duo from Luxembourg is composed of Sven Schmeler and Gilles Glesener, and the band has been active since 2020, having released their first EP Caviar Capital in 2021. We learn that for live performances, Sven and Gilles enlist Philipp Colling on bass and Miko Buraczyk on guitar.

We have added Cicadas to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream The Cookie Jar Complot‘s wider discography, and anticipate their upcoming EP, Lobster Knife Fight, set for release later this year!
