In the past, we have had the pleasure of featuring composer Filip Dahl for Cry of a Broken Heart, Walking Towards Eternity, and Can You See the World, so when we heard that he had joined forces with his family members, Stian Dahl and Robert Dahl (aka pzyroks) to create the new moniker Transcending Into the Unknown and single of the same name, we were curious to say the least!
Immersing us with an 80s adjacent drum roll and elegant guitar performance, we are immediately transfixed by the familiar energy of the composition, as Filip shares his soul through the medium of a glistening performance. He is joined by his bandmates who convey an equally tangible, albeit distinctive output with their unique instrumental mastery. For reference, Filip and Robert are brothers while Stian is Filip’s son!
The emotional nature of the piece is awe inspiring, in line with the opus and band’s epic name. The performances are fittingly transcendental, sending us to another dimension, once of peace and purple skies, akin to the artwork!
Anecdotally, we learn that the self-professed “guitar geeks”, have never previously worked together “due to different playing styles and music taste”, but that said, the cohesive tapestry of sound that they create is magnetic and evocative! The sonic architecture and influence spans blues rock to metal and progressive rock. It’s worth nothing that the guitar solos performed are by Filip from 00:00 to 00:56, Stian from 02:10 to 02:49, and Robert from 02:50 to 03:25!
We have added Transcending Into the Unknown to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream pzyroks and Filip Dahl‘s wider discographies and anticipate future releases from the talented trio, and Stian Dahl‘s solo ventures!
