We have been intently following the growth of Norway’s Filip Dahl with the releases the decadent and emotive, Cry of a Broken Heart, and the dimensional, Walking Towards Eternity, as well as his epic album, Storyteller, so when we heard that the visionary artist had just released the brand new, Can You See the World, we couldn’t wait to listen and feed back.
Drawing us in with an enigmatic guitar melody with textured percussion details, Filip Dahl opens Can You See the World with a sense of intrigue and depth. The composition expands with electric guitar riffs and padded drums which enhance our connection with the piece, generating a thought-provoking energy from the soundscape alone.
It builds with charismatic instrumental performance, which you can witness in the video below, as the Norwegian composer takes us on a transcendental trip through his psyche, space and time. We are enthralled by the cinematic nature of the piece as the artist shares atmospheric vocals singing the title of the track, asking us to consider the future of Earth through the eyes of future generations.
We learn that the music and lyrics to Can You See the World were written as “an observation and statement about how unpredictable the future of the world we live in has proven to be, due to the crazy egos of leading politicians. We could all start to wonder what our children and grandchildren will grow up to inherit.”
Midway though the opus we experience a change of pace with rolling drums and a vibrant performance that takes on an anthemic and dramatic energy. The piece showcases a more progressive rock edge, fused cohesively with the visionary artist’s vocals and message. We deeply appreciate the dimensionality that Filip Dahl shares with his poetic prowess and immersive prose.
The finale of the track is high octane with a dynamic synth performance which builds up to a climax. The electric guitar solo is naturally out of this world, once again tying together the overarching message of the composition. We are in awe.
