The Armchair Captains tease new sound with philosophical and profound new single, The Crushening

With a bold guitar soundscape and charismatic delivery, The Armchair Captains open The Crushening with the evocative and metaphorical lyrics, “This man’s on hold, doesn’t know his milk’s got old, warned through stories he’s been told, can’t tell his luck from gold…”

We immediately appreciate the poetic prowess and unique concepts that The Armchair Captains convey with their latest release. The track switches up to an elegant electric guitar melody with intricate percussion as the band from Liverpool deliver thought provoking prose fusing elements of Brit-pop with nu-metal. Needless to say, we are in awe.

Speaking on the release of The Crushening, the creators confess, “This song is a true reflection of where we are at as a band, and the kind of music we want to make.”

With reference to the themes, the band tell us, “[The Crushening] is a foray into the dark side of UK society, which is seeming to be growing larger and more obvious as the months go by. It touches upon the fragile nature of our financial system as evidenced by the cost of living crisis, as well as taking a good hard look at the disgusting reality of the 1%, and how the only ones who have any power are the ones least deserving of it.”

We appreciate the much-needed philosophical depth that The Armchair Captains deliver, and their brand of art as activism. The band is comprised of Spencer Lawrence on vocals, whilst Luke Lomax plays guitar, Joe Gordon-Potts performing saxophone and keys, with Jonny Wood on bass, and Alex Earley sharing his skills on the drums, who all deliver masterful performances.

They cite Black Midi, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Porcupine Tree, Snarky Puppy, and Haken as influences, although it is clear that The Armchair Captains are creating a universe of their own.

We have added The Crushening to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to steam the band’s existing discography including Shelter, and Monolith, and anticipate future releases from The Armchair Captains!
