We recently featured PENELOPE for her inclusive and fierce anthem for progress, Jelly, so when we heard that the rising star had also released the Mind Electric Radio Remix of her 2022 single, BiConic, we couldn’t wait to listen and feed back!
First off, it is worth noting that PENELOPE (also known as Penelope Pettigrew) uses her voice to manifest equality for all, and raise awareness for the LGBTQ+ community. Naturally, BiConic is about just that – the iconic nature of being bisexual, and understanding that sexuality is fluid, and how identifying as bi-pan is actually the most honest and authentic way to live on planet Earth.
The remix opens with an immersive dance-friendly soundscape, with atmospheric vocals from the star as she sings the chorus of the track, “I didn’t know the power I could have, yeah baby I′ve grown, been making my own path, ain′t nothing like being what you wish you could see, bisexual, iconic, i am BiConic!”
We are in awe of the evocative nature of the artist’s lyricism, and the empowerment that she shares through her prose. Speaking on the message of the song, PENELOPE says, “BiConic is a bisexual anthem is a feel good, uplifting track, dedicated to the Bi+ community.” We learn that the track is written by PENELOPE, along with producer duo Cressbrook & Justine Eltakchi. The remix is by Aria Award Winning DJ Mind Electric and released by Booshu Records.
Elaborating on the depth and intention of the single, PENELOPE says, “The Bi+ community is one that has seen years of invalidation and misrepresentation, so I wanted to give us an uplifting anthem that boldly and unapologetically celebrates who we are. It’s the amazing people in our community who inspired the lyrics for BiConic and the uplifting energy that we’ve created. I’m so proud to gift this song to our community!”
We love the cohesive nature of the remix, and how vibrant the soundscape is, with a pulsating dance energy, and disco nuances. The original version of the song has had plenty of success in its own right, and it’s certain that PENELOPE will be performing the remix for many prides to come!
The star tells us, “The original radio release of BiConic saw me launch my first headline show, held upstairs at Universal nightclub in Sydney and selling out at over 230 tickets.”
She continues, “I have recently performed BiConic on the main stage at Fair Day, Mardi Gras 2023 as part of my 20 original minute set, as well as part of my headline set for BiCONIC EVENTS sell out Mardi Gras After Party at Pleasures Playhouse, Feb 25th. I will also be performing the remix as part of my 25 minute headline set for Flow, a Queer Brazilian Funk Party held at Oxford Art Factory.”
