Sharod Virtuoso shares evocative commentary on modern dating with new single, Favorite

Setting the tone with trap-adjacent high hats and an immersive synthscape with nuanced keys and percussion, Sharod Virtuoso opens Favorite with introspection and charm as he questions, “I wonder if I’m even your favorite, favorite, baby am I even your favorite, favorite, cos I just wanna be your favorite, would you tell me if I wasn’t your favorite…”

The opus expands with elegant flow and charisma as the rising star from Atlanta shares his emotions, vulnerabilities and poetic prowess. Speaking on the message of the track, Sharod Virtuoso confesses, “The entire concept and main draw of the song stems from an interesting conversation that I had with a friend of mine. Shortly after discovering that he wasn’t the only guy that this girl he was seeing was dating, the realization that he wasn’t the only guy made him question his status in her life.”

The multi-disciplinary artist continues, “I found it to be an intriguing concept for a record; contemplating your place in someone’s dating pool rotation, with knowledge that you are not the singular love interest for them at the present moment. I feel like that’s something that quite a few people, men and women, can relate to in this date and time.”

With polyamory on the rise, Sharod Virtuoso has certainly nailed the pop culture zeitgeist with his latest release, and we appreciate his prophetic depth. He says, “The song is simply about inquiring if you are in fact the most important, or most valued, potential love interest in that particular person’s life. Acknowledging that you’re aware that you aren’t the only one that that person is seeing, but you would like to be their favorite one.”

We love the message and the soundscape that Sharod Virtuoso is sharing. He cites John Mayer, Prince, Ryan Leslie, Gary Clark Jr, and Musiq Soulchild as his influences, which we can feel come through on Favorite, although it is certain that Sharod Virtuoso is creating a universe of his own.

Favorite has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Sharod Virtuoso‘s wider discography including Slow It Down, and Selfish.
