Earlier this year, we featured Garland Kelley for his expansive and thought-provoking debut single, A Mind of Your Own, so when we heard that the rising star had just released his follow up, The Point Of No Return, we couldn’t wait to listen and feed back!
Immersing us with textured drums, and an out-of-this-world guitar performance, we are immediately in awe of The Point Of No Return, which our protagonist opens with the moving and symbolic lyrics, “Children of the song, the Earth is weeping blood, destruction is the calm before the flood, turn your head away, the pain that we create, someone else is bound to lead the way…”
The opus expands with depth and emotive chords, as Garland Kelley outlines the current state of reality, addressing climate change and the self-destruction of our species and planet. We deeply appreciate the message that Garland Kelley shares with his voice. His words are eloquent and conscious, and we are moved by his themes and accompanying soundscape.
We learn that with it’s poignant lyrics, The Point of No Return shows that this artist is “committed to making music that matters, giving a voice to his identity, and letting the musicality of his work stand out on its own merits.”
Fans of artists including Foo Fighters, Audioslave, Tool, Stone Temple Pilots, Dead Rituals, or Dredg will certainly be able to connect to the song. However, as we said previously, what Garland Kelley is creating is highly unique, and that he is in a progressive lane of his own, perhaps along with other conscious artists such as NEO 10Y, there are also elements of Red Hot Chili Peppers within Garland’s sound, which evokes a sense of a nostalgia and timelessness.
We are in love with the universe of possibilities that Garland Kelley presents, and naturally, we have added the eye-opening The Point of No Return to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream A Mind of Your Own and anticipate future releases from the visionary artist.
