Last year, we had the honour of featuring the enigmatic artist Urban Walrus for his dynamic and profound single, August Rain, so when we heard that he had just released the brand new, All I Really Want, we couldn’t wait to listen and feed back!
Drawing us in with a luscious, art-rock meets Brit-pop soundscape, Urban Walrus opens All I Really Want with introspection as he shares the lyrics, “What would you say if I told you that I no longer care? Would you say to me, that I’ve got to be out of my mind? Who wins the race who, gets the prize, who gets a share? You see what I mean when I tell you that I no longer care?”
We are enamoured by the vocal timbre of Urban Walrus, who is also known as artist Fabian Koerber. We admire the way that he invites us to be free and “splash around” like a walrus. His lyricism, metaphors and concepts are unique, setting him apart from his peers.
Naturally, the sonic architecture of the composition is refined, and holds a sense of intentional nostalgia, which we appreciate. Speaking on the story of the song, Urban Walrus says, “The lyrics follow a ‘what if’ pattern, questioning our very being, our goals and values in life. The answer is given instantly by offering a naive hippie-kinda beach-life utopia, as a romantic escape.”
We love the imaginative nature of the piece, and the mesmerizing chord progressions. There is no doubt that Urban Walrus is manifesting a dimension of his own, and we are grateful to experience it by proxy.
All I Really Want has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Urban Walrus including Shades and August Rain. Make sure to also purchase the single on Bandcamp!
