Last year, we had the honour of featuring Julian Petrin for his transcendental tracks, Moonrays and Embrace, so when we heard that the star had launched 2023 with the release of Are We Ok?, we couldn’t wait to experience it!
Establishing the mood with an astral synthscape, we are immediately in awe of the immersive dimensionality of the composition before it expands with luscious melodies, which evoke a sense of nostalgia, fused cohesively with the progressive tapestry of sound that Julian Petrin creates.
The visionary artist from Hamburg takes us on an evocative adventure with the chill wave meets dream pop hybrid piece, building suspense with psychedelic rising elements which peak just over half way through the opus. The cinematic nature of the sound design is tangible, and we are inspires and uplifted by the energy that the talented composer delivers.
A minimalist outro with a playful bassline takes us through to the conclusion of the track, which naturally has us reaching for the replay button. Speaking on the release of the track, Julian confesses, “Are We Ok? is the first single from my planned album Hello Infinity.”
He continues, “The atmospherically dense and timeless instrumental song evolves around a catchy musical theme that sonically borrows from early eighties synthpop.”
