We appreciate the ebbs and flow of the piece and the authenticity that J. Lock delivers with his fierce and evocative flow. Born in Mississippi and now based in Atlanta, we learn that J. Lock uses his “extraordinary penmanship and heart-capturing vocal riffs” to share his story though music.
After we stumbled across J. Lock‘s artistry, we had to further explore his discography which also brought us to the incredible music video for the visionary artist’s debut – Typa Szn, also the name of his 2021 EP! The visual showcases and epic performance from the star, and has us hypnotized throughout, also allowing us to deeper contextualize the message of On Deck.
We learn that growing up, J. Lock was a quiet person. At the age of fourteen, he started using e music as an outlet and a form of expression. He cites Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole, as some of his influences, although it is clear that J. Lock is creating a universe of his own.
He confesses, “You wanna leave marks and footprints on this earth of your work to inspire others. I do what I do because it makes me proud and I’m working towards serving my purpose.”
