Drawing us in with a dimensional synthscape, exquisite drum work and a saxophone protagonist with vocal add libs and astral harmonies, JehiahSax opens Gangster of Love (pre-save here) with situational lyricism from Ken Fitzpatrick, as he takes us on an evocative journey through his psyche.
We appreciate the wholesome yet subversive elements that JehiahSax exudes, along with his collaborators Ken Fitzpatrick and WereKitten. The opus evolves with charisma and poetic prowess to share a cohesive message of expansion, and a tapestry of sound that also features Irene Fong on violin, Anthony Fonseca on guitar.
Speaking on the message of Gangster of Love, producer and saxophone player JehiahSax profoundly confesses, “The idea for this song came in studying archetypes. The archetype of the Gangster of Love is brought to life in the lyrics that tell a story of one disconnected from their shadow side allowing it to take control. However, when the gangster realizes self love and shining light on the shadow tendencies of ones’ self create a powerful alchemy of the soul, he changes his stride for the better.”
We love the depth and authenticity that JehiahSax amplifies with his message, and his saxophone performance on the record is out of this world. He cites the “upbeat neo-disco” influence of Jamiroquai, and the neo-soul of Erykah Badu and Jill Scott as some of his influences for the joint, although it is clear that JehiahSax is creating a universe of his own.
Elaborating on his background, JehiahSax tells us, “I’ve developed an eclectic and versatile range through two music degrees and over twenty years of experience playing the saxophone. In 2012 I journeyed to New York City where I still reside. I am immersed in the dance music scene collaborating with DJs and music artists. I am also a part of a dynamic emerging nu-disco band called Strut.”
