2022 was a highly creative year for Herald K, with the releases of the transcendental and dimensional, Arethusa, and as he paid homage to the words of William Butler Yeats with the enchanting, Wandering Aengus, so when we heard that the visionary artist was releasing Echo’s Song, we couldn’t wait to experience it!
Immersing us with the prose, “She saw him by the river, where he lay, his beauty seemed like from some ancient day, at first she tried to keep from coming near, hoping that he voice would reach his ear…”, sonically designed with intricate piano, Herald K opens Echo’s Song with a charming narrative that has us gripped from the very first moment.
The composition expands with guitar tones as the tale continues with a luscious strings (Nyckelharpa) arrangement, before Herald K shares his vocal range in collaboration with singer Lina Louise. The pair create a vibrant and emotive alternative folk tapestry of sound, and we are in awe.
Naturally the tale is based on the iconic story of Echo and Narcissus, with particular emphasis on Echo’s experience. Echo’s Song marks the fourth release from Herald K‘s Mythologies project.
Speaking on the inception of the release, Herald K confesses, “The song was written on a summer’s day, sitting on a park bench. The words came to me very fast, and I had the basic lyric down in about an hour or so. It was meant to only be a poem, but later I realized I could add melody to it and make it into a ballad…’
We always love and respect what Herald K creates, and Echo’s Song is no exception to his exemplary discography. We have added the opus to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from the star and continue to stream his wider discography.
