2022 was an incredibly creative year for Dream of a Man in a Top Hat with the releases of All Time Is Borrowed Time, Cold Hard Dirt, Eggshell Minefield, and Opposite Poles, so when we learnt that the rising duo were kicking off 2023 with the brand new single, Like a Fire Engine, we couldn’t wait to experience it!
Setting the tone with the guitar driven, art rock sonic landscape that we have come to admire from Dream of a Man in a Top Hat, they open their latest release with the title of the track as they sing metaphorically, “Like a Fire Engine, I just can’t slow down…”
We can always count on Dream of a Man in a Top Hat for a thought-provoking concept, and Like a Fire Engine is no exception! The vocal range and dynamism is unique as ever, and we love the timbre exhibited by the duo, fused with their high octane production design, which feels cohesive with the nature of the lyricism.
Fans of The Cure will definitely be able to connect with Like a Fire Engine, although there is no doubt that what Dream of a Man in a Top Hat is highly unique to their own artistic architecture.
Midway through the track, the composition takes a more experimental turn, once again, keeping us on our toes, moving away from the immersive energy, and sharing a delightful segue with trippy vocal nuances before the final and anthemic reprise.
Dream of a Man in a Top Hat is comprised of two thirds of Boston 80’s post-punk band Native Tongue, namely Lee Leffler (guitars, keyboards, vocals, lyrics) and Michael Frackleton (drums, bass, percussion, keyboards, vocals, lyrics). We deeply appreciate the energy that they create together, and it is abundantly clear that Lee and Michael vibe off each other in a super authentic way.
We have added Like a Fire Engine to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Dream of a Man in a Top Hat‘s wider discography and anticipate future releases from the duo!
