Setting the theme with theatrical keys, M-Dot opens One Day at a Time with a commentary on the present state of reality, laced with luscious vocal harmonies.
The opus expands into a pop meets contemporary hip-hop hybrid that fans of the Black Eyes Peas would definitely be able to connect with, the artist also cites OutKast, Common, and Macklemore as sonic influences, although there is no doubt that what M-Dot is creating is unique to his own design.
Speaking on the release, M-Dot, who is also known as artist Mike Cole says, “One Day at a Time is really personal to me. It [is] a vulnerable, therapeutic passion project for me to get through the pandemic’s emotional effects and connect with others.”
Elaborating on his collaboration with Mary Lankford, who delivers an exquisite vocal performance, the rising star confesses, “As I realized that I could connect with prominent DMV-area R&B and soul/funk singer-songwriter, Mary-eL to collaborate with her on the track, the next thing I knew, it had morphed into something even more significant, and it’s been super exciting ever since!”
When discussing his connection with music, the visionary artist says, “My favorite thing about being a musical artist is the therapeutic benefit I get from expressing myself and connecting with others.”
