Luke Frees delivers cinematic and emotive new single, If There Ain’t A Heaven

Last year, we featured Luke Frees as he delivered vulnerability on the emotive single, Most Of The Time, so when we heard that he had also released, If There Ain’t A Heaven, we couldn’t wait to experience it!

Drawing us in with rippling and intricate keys, Luke Frees opens If There Ain’t A Heaven with his signature, refined sound and theatrical nature as he sings, “Sapphire in the sky, can’t you see it fly, high above the lighthouse on the pier, it twinkles off the waves, that echo in the caves…”

With an immersive accompanying violin performance from Corwin Zekley, Luke shares poetic prowess and metaphorical nuance as he takes us on a visual journey with the opus.

Luke tells us, “If There Ain’t A Heaven is about the blissful feeling of being so completely in love and wrapped up with someone you feel like you can take on the world with. It’s the peak of the mountain, after you’ve gotten to know someone but before the love gets stale, where anything and everything seems possible all at once.”

We love his philosophical energy, and the charming and charismatic manner with which Luke Frees delivers the song, and can imagine that fans of Elton John and Queen would definitely be able to connect with the composition and message, and Luke cites Tom Waits’ Kentucky Avenue as a sonic reference.

The rising artist from Chicago elaborates with regards to his creative process, “This single was recorded in my apartment in Chicago, with the exception of the piano tracks, which were done on my neighbour’s Steinway grand piano.”

Luke continues, “My friend Corwin Zekley recorded the violin tracks, and our goal with it was to make it sound like a classic Hollywood film score with the string section, and we ended up overdubbing close to two dozen different violin tracks and layering them all in there.”

The attention to detail with If There Ain’t A Heaven is tangible, and we have added the composition to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from the talented star.
