It’s been a highly creative year for Ruiz! with the immersive and intricate, Falling, and as he channelled his anger to raise awareness of the injustices of the system on the powerful single, One Rule, so naturally, we couldn’t wait to experience his latest release, The Human Touch.
Drawing us in with a luscious indie-rock-hybrid soundscape and atmospheric vocals, Ruiz! opens The Human Touch with introspective prose as he sings, “Doused with doubts, we move on, how could we get it so so wrong?”
We can always count on Ruiz! for thought-provoking themes that allow us to go inward and reflect at the same time as appreciating his lyrical prowess. He asks, “When did we lose the human touch?”, amidst 60s-powerpop harmonies that generate an awe inspiring sense of timelessness, tapping into nostalgic elements in line with his evocative lyricism.
The rising artist from Sheffield shares his observations, and confesses that this was a song that he wrote “whilst in bed trying to get over Long Covid earlier this year.”
Ruiz! tells us, “It’s about how as a race we seem to have lost the love and respect we once had for fellow humans, the ability to get on together and live in a society where we help each other out, instead of distancing and finding obstacles to avoid harmony. Covid appeared from nowhere and the whole world shut down. Now we need to move on and grow strong again. Find love, be kind and celebrate life.”
We deeply appreciate the artistry and wisdom that Ruiz! shares with his work, and it is no surprise that his music has been featured on the BBC Introducing Mix Tape by Tom Robinson in the UK and played on BBC6 Music. His vocal range is divine, and we love his chord choices and the cohesive tapestry of sound that he generates.
Ruiz! is also known as artist Hugh Ruiz Robert and his fusion of 60’s rock’n’roll, electronica, punk, pop, psychedelia and dark rock is unique, charismatic, and exquisite. We have added The Human Touch to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Ruiz!‘s wider discography including One Rule , Morning, Blue Mediterranean and Falling.
