The Wildwoods take us on an introspective journey with single, West Virginia Rain

Drawing us in with rippling keys and an immersive acoustic guitar, The Wildwoods open West Virginia Rain with intricacy and atmospheric layered vocals.

We appreciate the melodies and power-pop chord choices from the Lincoln, Nebraska-based creatives, as they share a hybrid of metaphorical and situational lyricism, whilst taking us on an evocative and introspective journey.

We learn that West Virginia Rain is the first single to be released as part of The Wildwoods‘ upcoming album, Foxfield Saint John. They confess that “The song is a delicate, heartwrenching tale of the narrator’s attempt to turn to the simplest pleasures in life as a way to mask and overcome the hardships they’ve been experiencing.”

The opus is designed “to replicate the calming and rhythmic elements of rainfall, while simultaneously supporting the emotional components of the words.” We love the unparalleled detail that husband and wife team featuring Noah on guitar, and Chloe Gose on violin deliver, along with Andrew Vaggalis on bass, and their narrative-driven intention is exquisite.

It is no surprise that The Wildwoods have already gone viral on social media, amassing over 143,000 followers on Instagram and 45,000 followers on TikTok.

The Wildwoods cite a wide range of influences including Watchhouse, The Decemberists, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Peter, Paul, & Mary, Nickel Creek, Joni Mitchell, and Gregory Alan Isakov, although it is clear that they are creating a universe of their own.

We have added West Virginia Rain to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream The Wildwoods wider discography including Home and Thirteen Sailboats.
