Geena Gangi takes us on an ethereal and metaphorical journey with Sugar Stained

Setting the tone with a descending arpeggiated synth with luscious vocal textures fused with atmospheric nuances, Geena Gangi opens Sugar Stained with situational lyricism, “You were so sweet to me, love tasted like cherries, you had it all, a dream, the kind you want your mum to meet…”

The opus expands into an ethereal contemporary pop soundscape with poetic prowess and laced with introspection and a raw authenticity. We learn that Sugar Stained was created “after Geena found out that a love who seemed perfect was actually cheating behind her back.”

With such a profound subject matter, we appreciate the soundscape that Geena has created, the journey of the narrative, and the dimensionality in her output. The title of the track is in reference to being sugar coated, with a sweet outside but a bitter middle. Geena sings “really believed in this…but it was just sweet nothing” to take us on an immersive trip though her mind and spirit.

Geena Gangi cites Taylor Swift, Janet Jackson, H.E.R, Prince, Lizzy McAlpine and “soundtrack tunes of classic children’s movies” as her influences which we can feel come though in the piece, although there is no doubt that the talented artist is creating a universe of her own.

We have added the atmospheric new single to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Geena Gangi‘s wider discography including Luna and The Nice Guy.
