Bones in Butter release evocative and optimistic new single, Down but Not Out

It has been an incredibly creative year for Bones in Butter with the releases of the enigmatic, Another Cloud, and the immersive and dimensional, A Dystopian Love Song, so when we heard that they had just released, Down but Not Out, we couldn’t wait to experience it!

Drawing us in with an expansive, celestial frequency and a luscious alternative rock soundscape, Bones in Butter open their latest release with a charming vocals delivery and situational themes as they sing, “Every time I hear their voices, I feel a little bit uneasy, I really need to keep to keep my head down and see what’s left of you and me…”

We are obsessed with the vocal timbres of Milutin Krasevic and Luna Skopelja who both deliver immersive performances on the track. Down but Not Out features a meditative synth and out-of-this-world guitar solos which remind us of why we originally fell in love with the dark wave outfit from Belgrade, Serbia.

We appreciate the optimistic energy that the band shares with this release, referenced in the hook and the name of the song itself. Speaking on the release of Down but Not Out, the band confess, “This uplifting and positive song represents a contrast to some of our previous releases that are dominated by rather gloomy and bleak themes. As for the style, I guess ceretain influences from the Electric Light Orchestra can be clearly heard.”

The psychedelic nuance of the composition is what really stands out, lending itself to an astral energy for the piece which is brilliantly produced with a perfectly executed mix by Srdjan Popov. We also learn that the track was recorded at the Hill River Studios in Belgrade.

For now, we can only imagine how epic it would be to see Bones in Butter live, as they tell us, “As we are a relatively new band, and due to the pandemic and the restrictions imposed, [we] haven’t had a real opportunity to make an appearance. This will hopefully change since we all are pretty eager to play our music on stage.”

We love the authenticity and cohesive nature of their production, and have added Down but Not Out to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Bones in Butter‘s wider discography!
