Joshua Martin releases introspective and self-realized new single, High Go Down

We recently featured Joshua Martin for his romantic ode to love and his spouse with, Quiero Tenerte Pa Mi, so when we learnt that the rising star had just released the brand new single, High Go Down, we couldn’t wait to experience it!

Establishing the mood with a vibrant and dimensional synthscape with textured and pulsating drums, Joshua Martin opens High Go Down with intrigue and atmospheric vocals and situational lyricism.

The opus expands into a dynamic and psychedelic genre expansive electronica experience with a sincere nod to the 80s. We love the self-aware hook, “Jealousy makes my high go down…” as Joshua Martin shares his wisdom and lived experience of his “not-self theme”.

We learn that High Go Down was recorded in Riverside, California and is produced by Tokøta, who worked on the track in the UK and Bali. Joshua cites 80’s new wave, dark wave, pop, as well as reggae and latin music as his inspirations, as well as bands including No Doubt, Aterciopelados, and The Cure, although it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own.

Joshua Martin discovered at the age of ten that he could write music, and started by writing lyrics, then coming up with melodies. He had to memorize the melodies for many years until he was old enough to purchase a 16-track and mic. Now, he confesses that his DAW of choice is Logic Pro.

Joshua Martin performed at a Latinx showcase in November 2021 at the Lily Tomlin theatre at the LGBT Center in LA. Most recently he performed at Mi Centro Pride in DTLA on July 9, 2022. We can only imagine how entertaining his live shows are, and we deeply appreciate the authenticity and charisma that Joshua shares with his artistry.

We have added High Go Down to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Joshua Martin‘s wider discography including The Space In Between Us and Dulce Amor.
