Charmaine Koh releases Y2K-inspired visual for empowering single, Dreamin’

Setting the tone with a cosmic synthscape and alternative R&B energy, Charmaine Koh opens Dreamin’ with intrigue, dimensionality and charm as she sings assertively, “They’ll say you can’t do the things they wish they could, but shitty attitudes don’t bring back nothing good…”

The opus expands into a meaningful and thought-provoking vibe as Charmaine Koh makes a commentary on empowerment and the human condition, whilst delivering lyrics such as, “I don’t let the outside have control of what I feel inside…”

We appreciate the poetic prowess and depth that Charmaine Koh shares with Dreamin’, and are obsessed with the music video which features multiple looks, incredible set design and a hypnotizing performance from the rising star.

The Seoul-based Malaysian songstress pays homage to the Y2K era with her visuals, and confesses that Dreamin’ is about “embracing any kind of uncertainty in your life; whether that’s moving to a new city, starting a new job, or breaking up with someone.”

For Charmaine, we learn that it was traveling to a new city and living in Seoul, Korea. She comments, “I was seventeen at the time and it was overwhelming having to process that. That was the culmination of dreaming and embracing what’s in front of you.”

Charmaine elaborates, “I genuinely felt that Dreamin was very coming of age, melodically and lyrically mainly because listening to it just made me feel ready to take on the world. I loved the concept of it as well – I could visually see it come to life so I actualised it into a music video with a Y2K retro futuristic aesthetic.”

We love what Charmaine Koh is sharing and the authenticity with which she delivers her artistry. We have added Dreamin to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Charmaine Koh‘s wider discography including her album, Sunflower at Sundown from which, Dreamin’ is the opening track!
