Oliver Mavilio channels heartbreak and loneliness into emotive and existential single, Distant Sound

Setting the tone with a bold, alt-country meets dark-wave, post-punk hybrid energy, Oliver Mavilio opens Distant Sound with intrigue and a sense of evocative timelessness.

The opus expands with poetic prowess as Oliver Mavilio delivers atmospheric vocals with the metaphorical and introspective lyrics, “Underneath the darkest clouds, nobody sees me in this town…”

We love the depth and vulnerability that Oliver Mavilio shares with Distant Sound, and his emotion is tangible. We learn that the releases is inspired by Western cinema featuring rich guitar and slapback delay fused cohesively with Oliver’s rockabilly style vocals as he sings the existential hook, “Only death calls me now, now your voice is just another Distant Sound…”

The rising artist from Norwich in the United Kingdom cites Johnny Cash and Nick Cave as references, to which we could add Leonard Cohen, although there is no doubt that Oliver Mavilio is creating a universe of his own.

Elaborating on his artistry, Oliver confesses, “[It’s] quite a dark tone throughout. [We] need to be challenged. Whether that means feeling uncomfortable, nostalgic or unhappy or whatever. I think that is equally as important in a song, as anything else is. I believe in telling it how it is, and and when it gets rough, doing this is the only way I know how to deal with it.”

We appreciate the authenticity that Oliver Mavilio shares his art with and have added Distant Sound to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate further releases from the pioneering creator.
