Birdeatsbaby deliver transcendental and profound new single, Illuminate

We recently featured Birdeatsbaby as they teased their new record with the cinematic music video for Ribbons, so when we heard that their Halloween release was called Illuminate, we couldn’t wait to experience it!

Illuminate is the second single from Birdeatsbaby’s occult album HEX. It opens with the powerful and assertive lyrics, “No more words, no more lies, I’ll give it to you straight and apologise, I know your name and you are learning mine…”

The opus expands with textured cello strings and dynamic drums to deliver a thought provoking and dimensional experience, in line with, but also expanding on Birdeatsbaby’s existing discography.

Lyrical highlights include, the supportive “I could help you breathe again, lift the load…”, the observational “The stain of a world will keep you paralysed…”, and the bold “You can never rule if you never break, even if I crawl as I lay under the weight of it all…”

We love the ethereal vocal design with dynamic electric guitars and a glistening energy that feels profound, and simultaneously transcendental. We can imagine that fans of Portishead and Garbage would be able to connect with Illuminate.

Accompanying the track is a video which features singer Mishkin and cellist Hana, locked in a menacing dance of ritual magic. The cinematography is out of this world, and makes for the perfect visual treat aligned with today’s date.

Birdeatsbaby is a group of multi-instrumentalists that blend elements of rock, metal and cinematic music to create a sound that’s striking and unique. Their previous releases have been produced by Paul Reeve of Muse fame and John Fryer (Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails). Recently, one of their songs featured in Close to Me, in the hit Channel 4 thriller starring Connie Nielson and Christopher Eccleston.

We have added Illuminate to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Birdeatsbaby‘s wider discography!
