We recently featured Doll Riot as they set boundaries on their fierce single, Get a Life, so when we heard that they had just released the brand new, Mrreowrr, we couldn’t wait to experience it!
Drawing us in with industrial electric guitar, Mrreowrr expands with percussion details, bold drums and the assertive lyrics, “I’m not sorry for your fragile masculinity…”
The composition features the signature energy and elements that we have come to love from Doll Riot as they make a subversive and progressive commentary on the patriarchal systems of oppression.
Speaking on the meaning of Mrreowrr, the band confess, “This single is about the stereotyping of females for having emotions and the anger that arises as a result.”
We appreciate the high octane rising guitars, the screams and the incredible hooks as they sing, “I’m not a man, give me a chance…”. The tempo shifts add dimensionality to Mrreowrr, whilst we are hypnotized by the overarching message and charismatic vocal delivery.
The spoken word segment reminds us of iconic 90s songs like Popular by Nada Surf, and cement the message that Doll Riot intend to expand within society. The guitar solo is incredible and amplifies the cerebral trip that we are already on.
Doll Riot cite Destroy Boys, No Doubt, L7, and Hole as some of their inspirations, which we can feel come to life in their art, although there is no doubt that what they are creating is unique to themselves.
We have added Mrreowrr to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Doll Riot‘s wider discography!
