e!ena delivers depth on thought-provoking and introspective sophomore single, cognitive dissonance

We recently featured e!ena for her immersive and intricate debut, bittersweet, so when we heard that she had just released cognitive dissonance, we couldn’t wait to experience the song!

Drawing us in with mysterious footsteps, a car door shutting and the sound of a crash, followed by a dimensional bassline with melodic detailing, e!ena opens cognitive dissonance with situational lyricism and poetic depth as she sings introspectively, “She hums a long lost tune all alone, she doesn′t dream, but her grey matter beats endlessly, time’s moving faster and she′s getting older, the view is remarkable and she is unstoppable…”

The composition expands into an immersive soundscape with elements of pop, jazz and soul. We learn that cognitive dissonance was created to “embody the personal experience of living with anxiety, depression and behaviour disorders.”

e!ena confesses that the abrupt turnaround of the melody exemplifies the presence of hope amongst feelings of utter madness.” We appreciate her charismatic delivery, which reminds us of the prowess that she shared with her debut.

Lyrical highlights include, “Intoxicated with delusion…” and the profound and reflective, “She doesn’t even recognise herself…” . The saxophone solo is simply out of this world, fused with e!ena‘s jazzy riffs.

Speaking on her history with emotions and how it has played into her artistry, e!ena tells us “If it weren’t for some of the terrible experiences I’ve been through, I would have never discovered my passion for creating music that connects with individuals that struggle with their mental health. On top of that, I’ve discovered more about who I am as an individual, as well as the person that I strive to become.”

We greatly appreciate the depth and authenticity that e!ena shares with her artistry, and have added cognitive dissonance to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream her debut single, bittersweet!
