Establishing the mood with and immersive and dynamic synthscape, Blankiflúr opens Modular Heart with intrigue, cerebral details and the lyrics, “You won’t give me what I need… my soul has gone to far off place, I’m a creature with a thousand faces…”
The opus expands into an electronica meets trip-hop, ethereal dark pop vibe with divergent synths that keep our attention hooked. We appreciate the poetic prowess and conceptual energy that Blankiflúr shares with her hypnotic sonic universe.
We learn that Modular Heart is about “going on the journey of discovering your multidimensionality”. Blankiflúr confesses that it is about the need to “travel into the unknown places in your own creative consciousness and bringing back sounds, textures and emotions from those spaces that are filled with magic, wisdom and images of lifetimes that the soul seems to have access to”.
The depth and intention that Blankiflúr shares is tangible, and we love the vocal harmonies that are provided by Jerald Copp. When speaking in more depth about Modular Heart, the rising artist from Reykjavík adds, “The song is an electronic pop anthem about the path that many tread to get to see what hides inside, way beyond what is visible to the naked eye.”
Blankiflúr and Jerald Copp first teamed up when writing and producing Hypnopompic, Blankiflúr‘s first LP album released in April 2021. Stefán Örn Gunnlaugsson is the person behind Jerald Copp and he has made a name for himself in the Icelandic music scene working with many big names from different genres, producing and writing. He has also been releasing his own music under the name Íkorni for many years.
Without wanting to sound cliché, fans of Björk will be able to connect with Blankiflúr, but there is no doubt that the rising star is creating a universe of her own!
