The Badly Behaved release powerful and conscious new single, Govinda Jaya Jaya

Setting the tone with dimensional synthscape and pulsating drums with panning, cerebral textures, The Badly Behaved open Govinda Jaya Jaya with atmospheric vocals singing the title of the track.

For reference, Govinda Jaya Jaya is an Indian devotional chant, often sung in the Krishna Consciousness movement and by various other schools of yoga, and by Hindus in general. In 1996, the English rock band Kula Shaker adapted Govinda Jaya Jaya into their hit song Govinda. Their song remains the only British top-ten hit sung entirely in Sanskrit. The chant was also used by  George Harrison of The Beatles.

The opus expands into a dynamic sonic experience with multiple vocals delivering the iconic chant. The dance floor ready energy is tangible and the way that the song expands and contracts lends itself to an immersive experience.

The Badly Behaved have released two versions of Govinda Jaya Jaya, including a Radio Edit and an Extended Version. Richard von Kalmar of The Badly Behaved elaborates on the soundscape of the track by confessing, “The Badly Behaved’s version of the song fuses the chant with an electronic bassline, swirling pads, percussion and big guitar sounds that are used to help build it up to a crescendo.”

Richard grew up listening to bands such as Joy Division and Wire but was really inspired to start creating complete songs using electronic instruments after hearing songs such as New Order’s Blue Monday, the original version of the Pet Shop Boys’ One More Chance produced by Bobby Orlando and Cabaret Voltaire’s Sensoria.

We learn that The Badly Behaved’s current musical style is inspired by an eclectic mix of artists, from commercial giants, such as the Pet Shop Boys, Röyksopp and William Orbit, to niche artists, such as Lauer, Marvin & Buy and Zombies in Miami. We appreciate his references, but it is clear that The Badly Behaved are creating a conscious universe of their own.

The Badly Behaved tell us that their music making philosophy is to build on existing music that inspires them, as well as what has worked in the past, while always daring to try new things and to always being original.

We have added both versions of Govinda Jaya Jaya that are available for streaming to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of The Badly Behaved including Who Am I, We All Shine and Runaway.
