It has been an epic year for the mysterious Frank Joshua. We covered the releases of his profound, cerebral and emotive album, Sense Life, the Azido 88 remix of Rain, and our absolute favourite track, Loneliest Place In The World, so when we learnt that Frank was releasing the Jon Kennedy Remix of Five Minutes, we couldn’t wait to experience it!
Drawing us in with the iconic lyric from the song, “Five minutes, can cost you a lot”, the remix opens with a dimensional trip-hop drum and rippling textures, as Frank Joshua delivers his brooding vocals and wise lyricism.
We appreciate the minimalist energy that Frank shares with the Jon Kennedy Remix, which has an almost mantra-esque delivery which feels hypnotizing and profound.
Frank Joshua has released a mind-blowing seventeen songs in the last twenty-two months on Numen Records. We learn that the Jon Kennedy Remix of Five Minutes is the penultimate release before the release of his next album, Talk of Things, which comes out in the new year!
The energy is dynamic and we love the DJ-esque record scratches which add charm to the piece, but we also love how Frank and his message are still the main protagonists of the piece. The instrumental segment of the composition is immersive and showcases trip-hop/Dad-step producer Jon Kennedy’s talent.
Five Minutes comes with a brilliant and evocative, conceptual music video which has us hypnotized. The creators met in a trance-bar in Budapest, and cite trip-hop and Prince as inspirations for the collaborative remix, which we can feel come through in their intention!
Elaborating on the meaning of the track, Frank says, “Five minutes is an amount of time that seems insignificant. Yet the world can turn upside down in that short amount of time. What seemed normal one minute, can transform into a life changing event in the blink of an eye.”
We have added the Jon Kennedy Remix of Five Minutes to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Frank Joshua‘s album, Sense Life, and the accompanying remixes!
