It has been an eventful year for Jodi Heights with the releases of the fierce, yet vulnerable, White Knight and the cerebral single, The Iceberg, so we couldn’t wait to hear her latest offering, Aurora.
Setting the tone with Celtic harp arpeggios, Jodi Heights opens Aurora with atmospheric vocals and the situational lyrics, “I’ve been wandering far and wide, in this polar night, watching shadows come alive, in this twilight…”
The opus expands into a luscious and relaxing energy as Jodi takes us on a cosmic journey with her incredible, angelic vocals and poetic prowess. We learn that Aurora uses the northern lights as a metaphor for following one’s intuition. She sings with depth, “I’m training my eyes to see, Aurora.”
We are also hypnotized by the animated lyric video, which is Jodi’s first collaboration with Black Balloon Media capturing the mystery of the aurora borealis.
Speaking on the releases, Jodi says, “I’ve never seen the aurora borealis, but I was inspired to write a song about this natural phenomenon after reading the book ‘Wintering’ by Katherine May.”
She continues with depth, “In doing more research, I discovered that not everyone can see the aurora borealis easily. It depends on the amount of light pollution and the quality of your night vision. Cameras pick up the colors easily, but humans don’t see well in the dark. The naked eye has to be trained to detect the northern lights. I thought that was a beautiful metaphor for when we come to turning points in our lives.”
We love the originality and authenticity that Jodi Heights creates with, and have added Aurora to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream her wider discography!
